01

Standardized Testing

College admissions exams and independent-school entrance tests. SAT and ACT remain our flagship; SSAT and ISEE support families targeting selective private and independent schools.

  • SAT

Our flagship offering. Diagnostic-led preparation for the digital SAT, with adaptive Reading and Writing module strategy, Math with embedded Desmos, and pacing under the current shortened section times. See the SAT/ACT detail on the home page for our full method.

  • ACT

Section-by-section coaching for English, Math, Reading, and Science, plus optional Writing prep. We focus on pacing, elimination logic, and timed full-length checkpoints to build endurance and accuracy. See the SAT/ACT detail on the home page for our full method.

  • SSAT

The Secondary School Admission Test is used by private and independent schools to evaluate students applying to grades 3 through 11. Van Wilson Tutoring provides personalized SSAT prep across quantitative reasoning, reading comprehension, verbal reasoning, and the writing sample. Support includes targeted math, verbal reasoning, and reading lessons; strategy-focused sessions for analogies, synonyms, and time management; essay coaching for structure, clarity, and expression; and full-length practice tests to simulate the real exam experience.

  • ISEE

The Independent School Entrance Exam is used by private and independent schools to evaluate students applying to grades 2 through 12. Van Wilson Tutoring provides expert ISEE prep across verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, reading comprehension, mathematics achievement, and essay writing. Support includes content review across all test sections; vocabulary, math, and reading strategies; personalized essay coaching; and timed practice tests for pacing and familiarity.

02

Mathematics

Foundations through college-level calculus. Sessions are structured for both class grades and AP exam day.

  • Algebra 1

If you need help turning variables and equations into second nature, we reinforce solving skills for linear functions, inequalities, and systems while plugging any pre-algebra gaps. Expect scaffolded problem sets, quick-check quizzes, and targeted EOC prep that lifts both speed and confidence.

  • Geometry

If theorems, proofs, or tricky angle relationships have you spinning, we can help. We break vocabulary, coordinate geometry, and volume problems into clear visual steps, then guide you through proof construction until writing a two-column proof feels routine, not stressful.

  • Algebra 2

Struggling with quadratics, exponentials, or logarithms? Sessions blend graphing-calculator drills, real-world modeling, and practice exams so students can factor, transform, and interpret functions with confidence while building the algebraic fluency college-level math demands.

  • Pre-Calculus

If trigonometric identities, conic sections, or limits are holding you back, we connect each concept to its calculus payoff. Interactive graphing, unit-circle strategies, and weekly mastery checks help students start calculus or SAT/ACT prep fully prepared.

  • Calculus

Need help with limits, derivatives, or integrals before they snowball? We translate textbook theory into step-by-step routines, reinforce concepts with everyday applications, and provide custom practice sets that sharpen analytical and multiple-choice accuracy.

  • AP Calculus AB

If the AP rubrics feel mysterious, we decode them. We cover derivative and integral rules, walk through related-rates and area-volume FRQs, and run timed practice so students understand where points come from and how to approach exam day with confidence.

  • AP Calculus BC

Series, parametric curves, and polar integrals do not have to be daunting. We link BC-only topics to core AB concepts, drill past FRQs, and supply high-yield review tools that turn advanced calculus into a more manageable routine.

03

Science

From earth systems to electromagnetism. Calculus-based physics, AP rubrics, and lab-driven chemistry, taught at the level of the exam.

  • AP Environmental Science

If you need help making sense of Earth-system interactions, population dynamics, or environmental legislation, we break complex cycles into clear visuals and run data-set practice that mirrors College Board FRQs. Students learn to analyze graphs, recommend solutions, and support answers with evidence.

  • Biology and AP Biology

If cellular respiration, genetics, or evolution have you stuck, we can help. Sessions combine interactive diagrams, virtual lab walk-throughs, and timed practice questions so students can explain processes and improve both multiple-choice and free-response performance.

  • Chemistry and AP Chemistry

Need help balancing equations, mastering stoichiometry, or dismantling equilibrium problems? We guide students through molecule-building visualizers, lab calculations, and FRQ drills that translate directly to stronger quiz, test, and AP performance.

  • AP Physics 1

If translating motion graphs into equations feels impossible, we tackle kinematics, forces, energy, and momentum with video analysis, scaffolded problem sets, and rubrics that show how points are awarded on the exam.

  • AP Physics 2

Struggling with fluids, thermodynamics, optics, or electricity? We map each topic to guided lab scenarios and timed FRQs, helping students move from basic recall to confident problem solving.

  • AP Physics C: Mechanics

If you need help merging calculus with mechanics, we dissect derivations step by step, then apply them to rotational dynamics and energy conservation through rigorous FRQ practice. Students receive personalized feedback designed to turn partial credit into stronger responses.

  • AP Physics C: Electricity & Magnetism

Vector fields, Gauss’s Law, and inductance do not have to be intimidating. We walk through integrals, circuit analysis, and Maxwell’s equations with clear visuals and point-by-point scoring guides.

04

Literature & English

Grade-level and AP-level reading, writing, and analysis. Sessions sharpen argument, structure, and timed-exam composition.

  • English I

If you need help with the fundamentals of high-school English, we reinforce grammar, literary terms, and paragraph structure through short readings and guided writing drills. Students build clear analytical paragraphs and stronger essay foundations.

  • English II

Struggling to turn ideas into evidence-based arguments? Sessions pair close readings of classic and contemporary texts with thesis workshops and debate-style exercises, helping students build the confidence and clarity teachers reward.

  • English III

Need a boost in American literature essays or SAT/ACT reading? Junior-level support sharpens annotation skills, research-paper organization, and persuasive analysis while building exam-day reading strength.

  • AP Language and Composition

Need help mastering rhetorical analysis or synthesis essays? We break down strategies, build evidence habits, and run timed drills that improve argumentation, structure, and multiple-choice accuracy.

  • AP Literature and Composition

If tackling dense poetry or prose feels overwhelming, we guide students through line-by-line explication, timed FRQ practice, and rubric-based feedback so they understand how to build stronger literary arguments.

05

Social Studies

American history and AP-level social science. Document analysis, argument writing, and the skills the College Board rewards on the exam.

  • US History and AP US History

Master the story of America while sharpening the skills College Board rewards most: source analysis, DBQ writing, and thematic argumentation. Lessons blend concise mini-lectures, document breakdowns, and timed practice sets from released-style exams.

  • AP Psychology

From neurotransmitters to social influence, we turn dense theory into memorable, real-world examples. Sessions pair interactive review with experiment analysis and FRQ drills so students can apply concepts, not just recite them.
