I improved my SAT score by 250 points — from 1200 to 1450 — thanks to Mr. Otero’s unique approach. He didn’t just review answers; he taught me how to think through them.

Meet Our Tutors

  • Founder & President

Van Otero is a Cornell University alumnus and dedicated educator with over 15 years of tutoring mastery, committed to transforming how students learn and achieve their goals. He first discovered his passion for education while working with at-risk first-year medical students and has since guided graduate, college, and high school learners to success.

  • Tutor

Fernando Villafuerte, PhD, has worked as a Technology Specialist at the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) and Program Manager for the City Of New York, where he drives innovation in energy technologies. He earned his doctorate in Materials Science from the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), focusing on next-generation solid polymer electrolytes to boost battery performance. While at Caltech, he conducted research under Professor Julia R. Greer of the Kavli Nanoscience Institute and shared his expertise with Pasadena high school students through the Caltech Y’s RISE tutoring program.

Passionate about teaching, Fernando discovered a love for tutoring during the COVID-19 pandemic. Since 2020, he’s spent 5+ years helping students master challenging material—and he now thoroughly enjoys guiding learners to academic success.

  • Tutor

Joey Dingillo is a Ph.D. student in Mathematics at the University of Houston and a Loyola University Chicago graduate (B.S. in Mathematics & Computer Science, Physics minor, 3.76 GPA). At Loyola’s Stritch School of Medicine, he advanced radiation-oncology imaging by optimizing deep-learning models for low-dose CBCT, building a clinician-facing interface for observer studies, and developing robust data pipelines. His quantitative background spans hemodynamics and cancer-growth modeling, and he’s contributed to peer-reviewed work on bone-suppressed imaging with additional work submitted on synthetic dual-energy images. Earlier, he interned in electrical engineering, applying circuit analysis and energy modeling on an autonomous rover project.

A patient, practical educator, Joey has supported learners since 2022 first as a university peer tutor and now as a teaching assistant guiding students through calculus, linear algebra, differential equations, statistics, Python/Java, and physics. He breaks down complex ideas with step-by-step reasoning, visualization, and occasional code demos in Python/MATLAB/PyTorch to make abstract concepts feel intuitive. At Van Wilson Tutoring, Joey pairs research-level rigor with approachable coaching, helping students master fundamentals, raise performance on exams, and build confidence that lasts beyond the classroom.

  • Tutor

Anurathi Madasi earned her B.S. in Mathematics & Physics from Loyola University Chicago, where she made the Dean’s List and dove deep into astrophysics research. Her work spans tidal-tail dynamics in the open cluster M35 using GAIA data and N-body simulations (galpy, AMUSE) through Northwestern’s CIERA, as well as Caltech’s LIGO SURF REU, where she simulated kilonova follow-up of gravitational-wave events and evaluated ZTF detection efficiency—backed by hands-on observing at Palomar and presentations at AAS and APS. She’s comfortable in Python and Linux/HPC environments, and her contributions include a LIGO Document Control Center paper.

As a Loyola Mathematics Tutor and Physics TA, Anurathi brings a researcher’s clarity to the classroom: define the problem, choose the right model, and walk step-by-step until the idea clicks. At Van Wilson Tutoring, she helps students build durable intuition in math and physics—supplementing lessons with simple code demos when useful—so learners leave with sharper problem-solving skills and the confidence to tackle the next challenge.
