I improved my SAT score by 250 points — from 1200 to 1450 — thanks to Mr. Otero’s unique approach. He didn’t just review answers; he taught me how to think through them.

Meet Our Tutors

  • Founder & President

Van Otero is a Cornell University alumnus and dedicated educator with over 15 years of tutoring mastery, committed to transforming how students learn and achieve their goals. He first discovered his passion for education while working with at-risk first-year medical students and has since guided graduate, college, and high school learners to success.

  • Tutor

Fernando Villafuerte, PhD, has worked as a Technology Specialist at the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) and Program Manager for the City Of New York, where he drives innovation in energy technologies. He earned his doctorate in Materials Science from the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), focusing on next-generation solid polymer electrolytes to boost battery performance. While at Caltech, he conducted research under Professor Julia R. Greer of the Kavli Nanoscience Institute and shared his expertise with Pasadena high school students through the Caltech Y’s RISE tutoring program.

Passionate about teaching, Fernando discovered a love for tutoring during the COVID-19 pandemic. Since 2020, he’s spent 5+ years helping students master challenging material—and he now thoroughly enjoys guiding learners to academic success.

  • Tutor

Jacob Dumas is an incoming Mechanical Engineering major at the University of Florida and a Florida Bright Futures Academic Scholar. A 2025 graduate of Westminster Christian School in Miami, he earned recognition as a National Hispanic Scholar, Carson Scholar, and National Honor Society inductee while honing his technical skills through a hands‑on internship with Metric Engineering, where he surveyed civil‑works sites and learned construction‑management fundamentals. Beyond the classroom, Jacob led VEX robotics teams at Coconut Palm K‑8 Academy and Goulds Elementary, guiding young engineers from initial design sketches to competition‑ready builds, and he still anchors the tenor‑sax section of his church’s worship team.

Passionate about sharing knowledge, Jacob discovered tutoring in 2021 and has since spent four years helping students master everything from elementary arithmetic to AP Calculus. His teaching style reflects an engineer’s mindset—diagnose the challenge, design a clear solution, then iterate until the learner owns the concept. Whether troubleshooting a robot’s code or walking a classmate through derivatives, Jacob brings patience, enthusiasm, and real‑world perspective to every session, turning academic hurdles into opportunities for discovery and confidence.
